Emerger Fly

Duracell

Fly Description

The Duracell Nymph (specifically the Duracell Jig Nymph) is a modern competition-style Euro nymph designed by top Scottish competitive angler Craig McDonald. It has quickly risen to global fame within the tightline and Euro-nymphing communities as an indispensable attractor pattern that catches trout when almost nothing else is working.

Copper John

Fly Description
The Copper John was created in 1993 by master fly tier John Barr of Boulder, Colorado. It stands as one of the most innovative and commercially successful trout nymphs ever built, radically changing the fly-tying landscape by using non-tarnishing wire as a heavy, structural body rather than just a ribbing accent.
Barr drew partial inspiration from the Brassie—a classic Colorado midge pattern made entirely of copper wire. However, midges are tiny and lack the distinctive anatomy of larger mayfly and stonefly nymphs.
Barr took the core concept of a solid wire wrap and scaled it up onto a heavier nymph hook. By replacing traditional thread or dubbing with tightly wound, non-tarnishing copper hobby wire, he created an integrated weight system. The wire cut through water resistance like a knife, sinking the fly instantly.

Brassie

Fly Description

The Brassie is an American classic fly-tying pattern created in the 1960s to target trout on Colorado's famous South Platte River. It is globally celebrated as one of the most effective, simple, and rapid-sinking midge and caddis larvae imitations ever designed.

Blowtorch

Fly Description

The Blowtorch Nymph remains one of the most reliable competition-style Euro nymphs for targeting trout in fast or deep water. Below is a quick-reference summary of its core components, optimized for your fly-tying bench. In 2014, while training in the Czech Republic for the World Fly Fishing Championship, Olsen was fishing a challenging stretch of the Vltava River. A Czech competitor named Michael Adamcik recommended that Olsen try a traditional European pattern known simply as a Tag Nymph.

Sparkle Pupa

Fly Description

The Sparkle Pupa (specifically the Deep Sparkle Pupa and the Emergent Sparkle Pupa) is one of the most scientifically researched, ground-breaking fly patterns in fly-fishing history. Developed in the mid-1970s by legendary angler, author, and researcher Gary LaFontaine, this fly fundamentally changed how fly fishers understand and imitate caddisflies.

Shuttlecock Emerger

Fly Description

The Shuttlecock Emerger (frequently referred to simply as the Shuttlecock) is one of the most successful and widespread surface-film fly patterns in modern European fly fishing. Designed to target ultra-selective, surface-feeding trout and grayling, this masterclass in minimalist geometry is the premier European tool for matching hatching midges (chironomids) and Blue-Winged Olive (BWO) mayflies.

Serendipity

Fly Description

The Serendipity is a legendary, minimalist American fly pattern that serves as a highly effective dual-purpose imitation for both midge pupae and caddis larvae/pupae. Born out of the rugged tailwater culture of the American West, this deceptively simple design relies on pure impressionism to trick selective trout in slow, clear currents.

RS2

Fly Description

The RS2 (short for Rim's Semblance 2) is one of the most celebrated, minimalist tailwater fly patterns in fly-fishing history. Created in 1973 by legendary Colorado fly tier Rim Chung, this deceptively simple pattern was designed to target hyper-selective trout on the highly pressured, crystal-clear waters of the South Platte River (specifically the famous Cheesman Canyon section).

Petitjean Emerger

Fly Description

The Petitjean Emerger patterns represent a crowning achievement in European fly design. Created by Marc Petitjean, a master Swiss fly tyer who has been tying professionally since 1990, these flies revolutionized the industry by proving that Cul de Canard (CDC) could be used for the entire structural composition of a fly—not just the wings or collars.

Petitjean's emerger concepts completely redefined the mechanical limits of what can be built using duck preen feathers.
